Translational Medicine is a new discipline growth point in the international medical field and a new way of thinking that links basic medical research with clinical treatment. Modern basic medical research is based on the interdisciplinary subjects of genomic genetics, omics chip, automated communication, and bioinformatics. In order to design this building, we went to Germany to visit the Research Center of Translational Medicine of University of Heidelberg. Based on many discussions with experts from Tongji Medical College, we completed this complex architectural design. In a sense, the space and movement of this building are basically determined by medical experts.
An important problem faced by architectural design is the restriction of site. The outer contour of the building is basically determined by the relationship between the surrounding buildings: the adjacent buildings are shrunk in parallel and the sunshine requirements are considered, so as to naturally form the Y-shaped building with the plane.
Inside is a guesthouse built in the 1950s, and the building is the historical memory of Tongji Medical College. We insisted on preserving this small and unfashionable red brick building, and making the main entrance of the translational medicine center of the building, to form a courtyard between them, so the old and new buildings create a dialogue across time and space.
